What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The challenge is that only 70 percent of U.S. students graduate on time with a regular diploma and about 1.2 million students drop out annually. In the inner city, the numbers of students who drop out are about 60 percent. Dropouts are more than eight times as likely to be in jail as those with at least a high school diploma. D4K empowers kids in low-income communities by teaching them the importance of education and exercising. The children also learn life lessons such as team work, nutrition, discipline, and how to set and obtain goals.
